Where Do I Start When I Decide To Open My Own Business?

by Bridget Wright on January 2nd, 2008

question-marks.jpgStarting your own business can be a daunting task. Not only does it take a lot of courage, but it also requires quite a bit of business sense and resources. Thankfully, the Internet has opened up a wide assortment of references to go to when considering whether or not to open for business. But, where do you start?

The first thing I did when I decided to start my own business was to find out where there was a need. The very first business I started was over fifteen years ago when I was working in corporate America as a Staff Placement Specialist. Big word for “hiring manager”. My job was to recruit, review and interview job applicants for jobs with potential employers. Not an easy task. While I loved what I did with interacting with job candidates, I found most of their resumes to be lacking poorly in highlighting their skills and qualifications. Thus, Resumes Plus was born! I developed and worked this business for quite some time until the advent of the resume templates and software pushed old-fashioned resume writing out of the competitive edge market. However, it was quite lucrative while it lasted and I had a blast doing it.

Find what works for you. Find what you love and what you’re already doing naturally. You may be surprised to find that a business may be right at your fingertips.
