Lost But Important LapTop Information Could Make Her A Rich Woman
How much is the information on your laptop worth? How do you go about saving your work or creating a backup of your work just in case you “lose” some of your technology?
After reading this news story about this woman sho is suing Best Buy over her lost laptop, it got me to thinking: it’s crucial to not only have a back-up of your work but to also be careful of ANY infromation that you share with third parties, or in this case, repair people. I think if she had taken the extra time to take those precautionary measures, there in fact may not be a need for this (dare I say) frivolous lawsuit.
Who do you think will learn their lesson? Best Buy or the woman?

Interesting news story but 54 million dollars? Get real.
Absolutely, Best Buy should not have lost the computer and does owe her more compensation than they offered - it should be replacement value for the machine and all programs, plus something for the pain in the behind for them having lost it.
However, it is the owner’s responsibility and only the owner’s responsibility to back up and store all information. If I was to give my computer for repair, if I could, I would remove as much information as I could, although I know that this isn’t a guarantee or even if it would be possible.
I use Carbonite, which I know lots of people don’t like, but I find it invaluable and have had to regain my files with it.
