It’s Good To Be In Charge - - Being My Own Boss

by Bridget Wright on November 14th, 2007

manager-sign.jpgThe other day while I was furiously working on a writing project, my son asked me if I was going to go on his field trip to the museum. (pause). You know that feeling you get when you don’t want to really say yes but don’t know how to say no? Well, I had it.(replay). I must have hesitated far too long because he responded by saying he understood, I had to work, I can’t take off, blah, blah. Well the “boss” spirit rose up in me and I confidently assured him that I would in fact be on that field trip because I was MY own boss and I could take off whenever I wanted to, and I didn’t have to answer to anyone but me. So there! I would be there and that was that! He smiled at me with this wide, toothy grin and went off to play his video games. Guess I told him…or, have I just been played?

Being your own boss is something that a lot of people want and aspire to daily by seeking out and searching websites that promise them millions and show them how to “make money in your pj’s.” Being your own boss is definitely rewarding but does come at a price.

As I was reading Phil’s article about being boss (or King as he put it), I noticed lot of nuances in my own peculiar business traits in the article. Like for instance where he talks about leaving a job because of a particular manager. How many of us have ever done that? I’m certain that a lot of us have. I have. If you’re reading this blog, I think you also have that entrepreneurial spirit and you’re searching for “something else”. You perhaps may never be satisfied working for someone else. You like being your own boss.

Being your own boss is more than just being able to go on field trips and have lunch with your friends. It’s a lot of hard work that requires focus, discipline and attention to detail. Do you have what it takes to be your own boss? Look at this articlewritten by MSN Money to see if you have what it takes to be your own boss. What sometimes looks like it would be a piece of cake, usually isn’t.

Do you like being your own boss? What so special about it to you?
