Is Paris Hilton Smarter Than We Give Her Credit For?

by Kristen King on August 7th, 2008

(www.bizchicksrule.com) — Her "campaign ad" is hilarious, but there’s more to the story according to CNN. Not only did Paris Hilton contribute some lines to the script for her FunnyOrDie.com video response to John McCain’s "celebrity" campaign ad, but evidently she did the whole 1:50 video in four takes, completely from memory.

I knew it had to be an act; no one could actually be as dumb as she seems.

I think Paris Hilton is a very smart girl and knows exactly what she’s doing. She knows how to make money like the rest of the Hilton family. Daddy Hilton does hotels, Nicky does fashion and Paris does…well everyone — because sex sells and she knows it. And she uses this to influence everything from Burger King hamburger sales to political elections. I wouldn’t underestimate that girl for a second.

Amber, you are so dead on. Great observations. Everyone has their own type of business…

I’ve always thought Paris Hilton’s dumb blond act, just an act. Appearing to be an airhead is something she does consciously. I remember reading or hearing an interview where she was asked about the fact that she is a classical violinist and she said something about keeping it under wraps because violins aren’t “cool”. Paris has also avoided most of the negative press since her brief jail stay. I think everything she does (even her mistakes) is calculated and she understands both business and celebrity. Paris knows how to play the game and seems to do it on her own terms.

    Kristen,

And there’s a pretty long history of ladies who worked on multiple ” business angles “. My favorite is Madonna. I have fought for years now, with my Mom over her ” smarts “. Mom refuses to acknowledge it. I’ve been; like it or not sex and controversy sell and that woman is one ( form ) of a marketing genius. Mom = NO. Me = okay, I’d be happy with half of her money!

You have to love anyone who’s self-deprecating enough to satirize her own image. She’s done more than one thing I admire, and more than a few things I don’t. But I’m betting that girl’s got a strong head for business. She certainly made the smart move for her career this time. What a way to get back in the spotlight!
