Business Marketing Monday: Create a Blog
Yes, I know…you’re reading a blog post by a blogger who suggests that you create a blog to blog about your product or service. Whew! A mouthful, but it does work.

A blog by definition is a journal or an online diary about any topic of your choice where you disseminate information, interact with readers (or not), and give an account of what’s happening in your little topic of the world. It can be used for personal reasons or as a business tool. With so many available resources on the internet on how to start a blog, how to market a blog, what blog’s are profitable, etc., you can generally find information on how to get your blog started.
I was at the dentist’s office this morning (which is why I’m a little late writing today) and doing a little reading on blog marketing. The dentist came in, saw my book and asked what was I reading about. Blog marketing. He then asked me, “just what is a blog anyway?” Well, I thought just about everybody on the planet knew what a blog was. After all, even my little ten-year old niece has a blog talking about how much she LOVES The Jonas Brothers band, yada, yada, yada. Anyway, I didn’t say that to him, but I very nicely and informatively gave him a 30-second elevator speech about what a blog is, how they’re used, what I write about, and most importantly, how him having a blog could be good for his dentistry business. He took a real interest in finding out more about this “blogging thing” and wanted to know how to get started, what’s the difference between a blog and an email address (!) and could he do a blog on this thing called “MySpace“. Yep, this is the guy who’s going to fix my teeth.
Well, to my dentist, I informed him that with a blog that is properly marketed, he could attract (possibly) new patients and retain current ones. Patients are like customers and want information. Lots of it. I told him that he could provide a type of Q & A blog forum, a discussion forum between patients, write articles on any new developments in dentistry, or my favorite, offer the teeth-whitening system at a discount! Yes, I was going for the gold there.
A blog can help any business market their product or service if it is marketed effectively and correctly. Here at b5media, our Business and Blogging log ran a sort of contest to provide a business that the readers thought could not benefit from the use of a blog. Readers were stumped. Although there were some great ideas offered, the blog queens, Liz and Laura, provided information and resources that proved that blogs are wonderful marketing tools.
What type of business are you in or interested in blogging about? If I could show you a way to benefit from blog marketing, would you be interested?

It still amazes me that most businesses don’t take advantage of blogging.
Here’s to those that do!

You’re right, Laura. I do think that blogging is one of those little discoveries that is just waiting for SOHO’s to find.
